Wildflower, Nature and Wildlife Tours Perth.
A brand new Wildflower, Nature and Wildlife Tour is about to begin in Perth, and it is completely different to any other tour.
Wildflower season in Western Australia is celebrated and enjoyed by tens of thousands of visitors each year, but did you know that you do not need to spend a whole day on a bus to get to see them? In the centre of Perth are dozens of beautiful parks.
The Perth Wildflower, Nature and Wildlife Walking Tour visits 3 of the best including the world renowned Kings Park, quaint Queens Gardens and the untouched Heirreson Island. The tour Begins at Queens Gardens in East Perth, which is a only a 7 minute ride on the free CAT bus from Perth Train Station. Meeting your knowledgeable guide at the entrance to Queens Gardens, you will explore the historical East Perth district, which was once the industrial heartland of Perth.
See the Black Swans, which make their home in the gardens and, if in season, wonder at the beautiful cygnets at play. Sit on the park bench Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant fell in love on, in the movie “Notting Hill”, enjoy the art installations and relax in the beauty of this very English Garden. (Approx 500 meters of walking) Walk past the WACA and Gloucester Park, traditional homes to cricket and horse trotting in Perth since the 1800’s before connecting with the Swan River just a few hundred meters away (approx. 500 meters of walking).
The Swan River becomes extremely shallow at this point, and is the location of the best kept secret in Perth, Heirreson Island. Noongar aboriginals crossed the river at this point for 40 odd thousand years. These days, we walk across the Causeway Bridge and onto the island, which is home to a “mob” of wild Kangaroos.
No other city in the world has wild kangaroos living downtown. Seeing them with the backdrop of the Perth skyline is a beautiful site. Please note, as the kangaroos are wild, there is no guarantee of seeing the kangaroos, however we do respectfully look for them, while not disturbing the environment. At this point, it is not uncommon to see dolphins swimming by as the frolic on their swim between the ocean and down river.
Heirreson Island is also the location of the statue honouring the legendary Noongar elder, Yagan, who was assassinated during the volatile early days of the Swan River Colony in the 1830’s. Your guide will share with you Yagan’s story as you relax on the park benches overlooking the tranquil Swan River. The easy, flat walking loop of Heirreson Island takes approximately 45 minutes and covers approx. 1km. The tour will then jump on a Transperth Bus service and travel 10 minutes up to Kings Park (fare including in ticket price)
Kings Park offers the best view in Perth, and this is where the tour will stop for a 30 minute brunch break overlooking the stunning view of Perth with the Darling Ranges in the background and the Swan River in the foreground. (meals not included) The tour will continue with an exploration of the Botanical Gardens and the stunning bed of colours that grace it year round, followed by a walk through the treetops and loop back around to the War Memorial overlooking the city (total distance approx. 1km over 1hr).
